The Black Rose

Do you know who ‘Abdu'l-Baha was? He was a very important person. ‘Abdu'l-Baha was the Son of Bahaullah. He was always very kind and good to others. He was a perfect example of what a Baha'i should be. This is a true story about ‘Abdu'l-Baha.

A long time ago, long before you were born, ‘Abdu'l-Baha came to America. While He was on His trip to America, He spoke to many different people ... men and women and children.

He went to many cities - to churches and temples and parks and meetings and houses to tell people about the Baha'i Faith. He spoke to young people and old people and black people and white people and tall people and short people and rich people and poor people...

He told them all about Baha'u'llah.

Wherever 'Abdu'l-Baha went, many Baha'is went with Him. They were Baha'is of all kinds - Persians in Persian clothes, and Americans in American clothes, tall Baha'is and short Baha'is and rich Baha'is and poor Baha'is and old Baha'is and young Baha'is. And all colors - white and yellow and tan and brown and black.

Once, while 'Abdu'l-Baha was in New York, He went to a place where many poor people lived, to tell them about Baha'u'llah. This place was called the Bowery.
Many Baha'is went to the Bowery with 'Abdu'l-Baha. As they walked down the streets, some people stared at them because they were so different.

Soon some of the children started shouting and laughing. They thought that it was funny to see so many different kinds of people together. And, of course, they didn't know who 'Abdu'l-Baha was.

Mrs. Kinney was one of the Baha'is with 'Abdu'l-Baha. 'Abdu'l-Baha was staying at her house in New York. It made her sad to see the boys laughing and shouting at 'Abdu'l-Baha. So, she went over to speak to the children.

She told the boys who 'Abdu'l-Baha was. She said that He was a very Holy Man. He had spent many years in prison and had suffered very much, just because He told the Truth and loved all men. Now He was going to a meeting to tell poor people about Baha'u'llah.

The boys were sorry for what they had done. "Can't we go to the meeting, too?" they asked.

"No," Mrs. Kinney said that was impossible. But, since 'Abdu'l-Baha was staying at her house, they could come here on Sunday to meet Him. She gave the boys her address, but she didn't really think that they would come.

When Sunday came, the children arrived at Mrs. Kinney's house dressed up in their very best clothes. She was very surprised to see them. But, she was very happy that they had come to meet ‘Abdu'l-Baha.

History, Varieties and Meaning of Pink Rose

Pink roses are multipurpose flowers, perfect for an array of occasions.
They convey numerous emotions, including passion, thoughtfulness, and sentiment and are extremely contemporary in style, packing a colorful punch, with the ability to brighten up any room or event.
Whether you’re sending a bouquet of beautiful pink roses to a friend as a thank you, or are simply showing your affection and admiration for that special somebody, the pink rose is guaranteed to always express the right emotion.
And the best part? You don’t have to say a word.
With all of this in mind, it is little wonder pink roses are one of the most celebrated flowers on the planet, especially on Valentine’s Day!

The history of the pink rose

Pink Roses boast a long historical past. In fact, they’re one of the longest present-day roses known to man.
How do we know this? Because they have been depicted in many historical works of art varying in color from pale pink to the deepest shade of crimson.
Despite being a popular floral arrangement to gift to friends and family, there are a number of facts many are yet to learn about the rose species.
For example, every shade of pink has a different meaning, with the very first sighting of the pink rose originating from fossils dating back 40 million years! Additional historical evidence reveals that pink roses were grown some 5,000 years ago in China’s Imperial rose gardens and have persisted to play a part in history ever since.

The Little Pink Rose

Related image
Once there was a little pink Rosebud, and she lived down in a little dark house under the ground. One day she was sitting there, all by herself, and it was very still. Suddenly, she heard a little TAP, TAP, TAP, at the door.
“Who is that?” she said.
“It’s the Rain, and I want to come in;” said a soft, sad, little voice.
“No, you can’t come in,” the little Rosebud said.
By and by she heard another little TAP, TAP, TAP on the window pane.
The same soft little voice answered, “It’s the Rain, and I want to come in!”
“No, you can’t come in,” said the little Rosebud.
Then it was very still for a long time. At last, there came a little rustling, whispering sound, all around the window: RUSTLE, WHISPER, WHISPER.
“Who is there?” said the little Rosebud.
“It’s the Sunshine,” said a little, soft, cheery voice, “and I want to come in!”
“N—no,” said the little pink rose, “you can’t come in.” And she sat still again.
Pretty soon she heard the sweet little rustling noise at the key-hole.
“Who is there?” she said.
“It’s the Sunshine,” said the cheery little voice, “and I want to come in, I want to come in!”
“No, no,” said the little pink rose, “you cannot come in.”
By and by, as she sat so still, she heard TAP, TAP, TAP, and RUSTLE, WHISPER, RUSTLE, all up and down the window pane, and on the door, and at the key-hole.
“It’s the Rain and the Sun, the Rain and the Sun,” said two little voices, together, “and we want to come in! We want to come in! We want to come in!”
“Dear, dear!” said the little Rosebud, “if there are two of you, I suppose I shall have to let you in.”
So she opened the door a little wee crack, and in they came. And one took one of her little hands, and the other took her other little hand, and they ran, ran, ran with her, right up to the top of the ground. Then they said,—
So she poked her head through, and she was in the midst of a beautiful garden. It was springtime, and all the other flowers had their heads poked through, and she was the prettiest little pink rose in the whole garden!

The Origin of Gulab Jamun: A Story of History, Tradition & Oodles of Sweetness!

Festivals and celebrations without sweets? No can do! From the rasgulla and the modak to jalebi and gajar ka halwa, Indian desserts can make most of us go weak in the knees. However, if there is one desi delight I would pick over all others, it would definitely be the luscious gulab jamun.
Sinful, small fried rounds that smell of warm milk and caramelized sugar, gulab jamuns are ubiquitous in India — nearly every sweet store in the country serves some version of them. In fact, they have been served and savored so often that most of us have forgotten what it takes to make this sweet truly extraordinary.
The perfect gulab jamun calls for meticulously measured ingredients and a practiced technique. Made with chenna (or khoya) and kneaded with maida, balls of dough are fried till they turn that elusive rosy shade between gold and brown. After the heated oil works its magic, the crystallized sugar in the batter creates a slightly grainy crust while the Jamun's white heart remains silky smooth.
Infused with rose-scented (or cardamom-flavored) chashni, the ball yields to the slightest pressure, literally melting away as one bite into it. As such, the fluffy pillows of warm, syrup-laden dough are as deeply comforting as they are delicious — I could go on and on here.

Learn about desi gulab and the health benefits it has to offer

Indian rose
The Indian rose or desi gulab, as it is commonly known, is the poster girl for sweet-smelling natural products. It is about 2-3 inches wide, unlike the sturdier-looking English rose varieties, and has a delicate and sweet smell. "Desi Gulab is the original rose, which is why its beautiful aroma has a soothing effect on the body and the mind," says Gita Ramesh, Co-founder of the Kairali Ayurvedic Group, and author of The Ayurvedic Cookbook, Delhi.
Why is it popular? Used in making Ayurvedic medicines, cosmetics, potpourri, and desserts, the Indian rose is cool and mildly bitter-sweet. It has a good effect on your digestive system and is also diuretic in nature. "Rose tea, especially, heals stomach ailments and combats fatigue and lethargy," says Suja Mathai, a Bengaluru-based nutritionist. "Even chomping on a desi gulab (the organic variety) helps relieve stress. Washing your face with rose-seeped water calms tired skin," adds Ramesh.
Edible flower!Try this gulkand recipe by Ramesh: place fresh rose petals in a glass jar and layer with cane sugar; repeat the process until the jar is full. Close the jar and place it in the sun for 3-4 weeks; open every 2-3 days and stir.  When it has a semi-solid consistency, it is ready to eat. Add this tonic to milk and desserts.

The Proud Butterfly

Image result for story of flower and butterfly

Once, a beautiful, shiny and colorful butterfly was flitting from one flower to another. She saw a baby elephant coming down the path. She flew to him and sat on his ear. The elephant asked, "Who are you? Where are you going?"

The butterfly proudly replied, "I am the most beautiful of all the butterflies. You are ugly and fat. Your body is heavy while I am delicate and light. People are jealous of my colorful wings. I can fly anywhere with these wings."

The elephant calmly said, "I am glad to meet you."

The butterfly went on, "There is no comparison between us. You have four legs but I have six. You have a trunk and I have something like that too but I use it to suck nectar from the flowers. You cannot do that." Just then a strong wind blew and the butterfly could not keep her balance. She cried for help as she was flown away in the wind. But the elephant stood firmly on the ground and thought, "I can see how pride has a fall."

The Story of a Red Rose and a Cactus

Red Rose and a Cactus

One beautiful spring day a red rose blossomed in a forest. Many kinds of trees and plants grew there. As the rose looked around, a pine tree nearby said, “What a beautiful flower. I wish I was that lovely.” Another tree said, “Dear pine, do not be sad, we can not have everything.”
The rose turned its head and remarked, “It seems that I am the most beautiful plant in this forest.” A sunflower raised its yellow head and asked, “Why do you say that? In this forest, there are many beautiful plants. You are just one of them.” The red rose replied, “I see everyone looking at me and admiring me.” Then the rose looked at a cactus and said, “Look at that ugly plant full of thorns!” The pine tree said, “Red rose, what kind of talk is this? Who can say what beauty is? You have thorns too.”
The proud red rose looked angrily at the pine and said, “I thought you had good taste! You do not know what beauty is at all. You can not compare my thorns to that of the cactus.” “What a proud flower”, thought the trees.
The rose tried to move its roots away from the cactus, but it could not move. As the days passed, the red rose would look at the cactus and say insulting things, like This plant is useless? How sorry I am to be his neighbor.
Spring passed, and the weather became very warm. Life became difficult in the forest, as the plants and animals needed water and no rain fell. The red rose began to wilt. One day the rose saw sparrows stick their beaks into the cactus and then fly away, refreshed. This was puzzling, and the red rose asked the pine tree what the birds were doing. The pine tree explained that the birds got water from the cactus. “Does it not hurt when they make holes?” asked the rose.
“Yes, but the cactus does not like to see any birds suffer,” replied the pine.
The rose opened its eyes in wonder and said, “The cactus has water?”
“Yes, you can also drink from it. The sparrow can bring water to you if you ask the cactus for help.”
The red rose felt too ashamed of its past words and behavior to ask for water from the cactus, but then it finally did ask the cactus for help. The cactus kindly agreed and the birds filled their beaks with water and watered the rose’s roots. Thus the rose learned a lesson and never judged anyone by their appearance again.

The Best Flower in the Garden

Related image
As summer came to an end, all of the flowers in the garden wanted to know which flower was the best:
The pink roses said, "We are the best because we were the first flowers to bloom in the spring."
The white daisies said, "Oh no, we are the best because we have pretty flowers all summer long."
The big yellow mums said, "Don't be silly, we are the best because we are the last flowers to bloom in the autumn."
Each flower argued that they were the best. But when people came to see the garden, they stopped. All the flowers were quiet and looked very proud so people would say that they were the best.
One day the gardener came into the garden. The pink roses fluffed their petals so that they would look best. All of the white daisies stood up tall so they would look the best. The yellow mums beamed in the sunlight so that they would look the best. All the flowers were sure that the gardener would say they were the best. But the gardener only smiled and said, "Look at all of my pretty flowers!"
The gardener took a basket and began to put the pink roses into it. The roses were sure they were special because they were picked first. But the daisies just laughed at the roses, "Ha-ha! You are not pretty enough to stay in the garden."
Next, the gardener put some daisies in the basket and the mums began to laugh, "Told you! We are the best because we are the only flowers left in the garden."
Finally, the gardener put the mums into the basket. Again, all the flowers began to fight over who was the best.

When the gardener got to the house, he began to put all of the beautiful flowers into a vase. First, he put the pink roses into the vase, remembering that they were the first flowers to bloom in the spring. Next, he put the yellow daisies into the vase and thought how wonderful to see them every day when he walked in the garden. Finally, he put the mums into the vase; he was very excited to finally see the autumn flowers. He had been waiting all summer to see them.
The gardener put the vase on the table and said, "I have the prettiest bouquet of flowers. Alone each flower is the best, but together they look perfect!"
Suddenly the flowers realized that all along each one was the best that they could be. But it wasn't until the gardener made a bouquet of all of the flowers together that they became something special. At last, all the flowers were happy.

Rose for Mother

Image result for Rose for Mother

A man stopped at a flower shop to order some flowers to be wired to his mother who lived two hundred miles away. As he got out of his car he noticed a young girl sitting on the curb sobbing. He asked her what was wrong and she replied, “I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother. But I only have seventy-five cents, and a rose costs two dollars.”
The man smiled and said, “Come on in with me. I’ll buy you a rose.” He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own mother’s flowers. As they were leaving he offered the girl a ride home. She said, “Yes, please! You can take me to my mother.” She directed him to a cemetery, where she placed the rose on a freshly dug grave.
The man returned to the flower shop, canceled the wire order, picked up a bouquet and drove the two hundred miles to his mother’s house.
Moral: Life is Short.  Spend much time as you can loving and caring people who love you.  Enjoy each moment with them before it’s too late.  There is nothing important than family.

A FLOWER STORY

Image result for A FLOWER STORY
Once, in the early spring, two seeds were dropped not far from a river. One grew into a daisy, with soft white petals and a sunny yellow middle. The other grew into a rose, sweet and graceful, with petals the color of a summer sunset. They grew together and were the best of friends.

One summer day, the rose said to the daisy, "I would like to see the world. I want to travel to faraway places, and see what it's like where other flowers grow."
"Why would you want to do that?" the Daisy asked. "I like it right here by our river. It's beautiful and peaceful, just the right place for two flowers."   "I suppose you're right", the rose sighed. "Besides, I couldn't leave you." And the two friends promised that they would never leave their place on the river bank.
But the very next day, a child was walking down to the river and spied the rose's pink petals. "Oh, what a lovely flower", she said. "I'll take it home and give it to mother." And she walked over and plucked the rose right out of the ground.
The daisy watched as her friend was taken away, unable to do anything to help. And she wept. Very few have ever heard a flower cry, and those who have say that there is no sound in the world sadder.

The child brought the flower home, where it was loud and busy and not at all fit for a little rose. The mother put the rose in a vase, and after a few days, that pretty little rose wilted, as flowers who have been taken from the ground do.

The daisy knew it was impossible that her friend would ever come back, but that didn't stop her from hoping. And there she sat, waiting and weeping all through summer, and right on into the fall. And that little flower waited right up until winter, when, exhausted and cold, she curled up and wilted. The daisy and the rose were reunited at last.
And so, I beg you, if you see two flowers growing sweetly together, do not pick one and put it in a vase on your table, but leave it there. Because, even for flowers, life is better when you have someone by your side.
