Alia to Katrina: Pilates is Bollywood's favourite fitness routine

Image result for Alia to Katrina: Pilates is Bollywood's favourite fitness routine
Once called Body Contrology, Pilates is a system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates was a sickly child who couldn't move but he observed how people weren't moving as much as they had been and he wanted to create a system accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical ability, medical issues, age, gender, etc.
Today, Pilates is a favorite routine with fitness enthusiasts and stars across the world. Our very own Bollywood is full of Pilates lovers.
"Deepika [Padukone] just a few days ago asked me to find her an instructor in New York. She worked out at 5am before her shoot. Alia Bhatt, when she travels, takes a trainer with her," Yasmin Karachiwala, the Pilates trainer of the stars told Mail Today last week at the opening of her studio in the city.
"Alia has a travel reformer [a carriage on which the exercise is done] and she'll ask me to send her a workout because she has only an hour at home. Vesna Jacob, who started teaching Pilates in Delhi 15 years ago, agrees Bollywood stars provide great promotion to the exercise system.
"People come to me all the time to instruct them for aesthetic value. But Pilates has several benefits," said the former national basketball champion from Bosnia. After a serious injury, she had no choice but to give up sports. But it couldn't stop her from learning disciplines until she encountered Pilates, which she said proved to be an "eye-opener".
"People come to me as a last resort or when they have a serious issue. When I teach I truly go to the body, mind, and soul. I've worked with people suffering from post-traumatic stress, spinal fracture, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia... And after Pilates, they have returned to normal routines."
But given today's lifestyle, the pollution, stressful jobs and the long commutes in this city, is it actually possible to use Pilates as a tool for healthier living?
"The lifestyle of last 20-30 years has created neck, back, shoulder and knee issues, not just due to a lack of movement but due to pollution, especially in India. Plus inadequate infrastructure and the climate become a problem for even people who want to do something," said Jacob.
"Pilates delivers on all this because it can be done easily, with minimum equipment, indoors or outdoors, where you are comfortable."
While classically Pilates is done in the lying position, Jacob's holistic Pilates can be done in the vertical space too. "So it can be done even as part of your office routine and will help you with your posture, your alignment, alleviate aches and pains. In case you are a healthy individual, it'll help shape up the body."
"Pilates will make you feel great because like yoga we too focus on breath but with movement and on machines that give you resistance. So when you breathe through the movement of Pilates, your body gets energized in a different way and you feel like you've woken up from a deep slumber. Pilates' focus is to fatigue but in a 'nourishing' way. When Katrina [Kaif] started Pilates she thought it was one of those exercises where you didn't work out and could relax. But as she did it and started understanding it, she felt how it nourished her body in such a better way than gym workouts do."
Jacob says she's seen people who do high-intensity programmes such as CrossFit and Zumba including Pilates in their routines on recovery days when the body balance needs to be restored.
"I believe everybody should have a foundation in Pilates because it teaches you internal awareness, control and calmness, and how to get the maximum out of yourself."

Tanushree Dutta backs Kangana Ranaut: Frat boys club of Bollywood hates your guts

Image result for Tanushree Dutta backs Kangana Ranaut: Frat boys club of Bollywood hates your guts
Kangana Ranaut has waged war on Bollywood for not supporting her and Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. The historical drama, which has received rave reviews, is currently inching towards the Rs 100-crore milestone at the domestic box office.
According to Kangana, Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi deserves to be celebrated because it is a film about women's empowerment and patriotism. However, she has claimed that the industry is ganging up against her and has vowed to "expose" them.
Now, Tanushree Dutta has expressed her support for Kangana and claimed that the "frat boys club of Bollywood and their dames" are intimidated by her talent, which is why they are keeping mum about her success.
In a statement, the Aashiq Banaya Aapne actress said, "Kangana Ranaut is a bonafide A++ list actress. Why the extra plus? Because she is the only one who made it to the top of her game in Bollywood without the nagging support and recommendation of A- list male stars, without a high profile surname or an unrealistically perfect, pure and pious facade that most Bollywood actresses seem to wear on and off screen."
"Besides being a powerhouse performer she has truly set an example of someone who has made a unique and celebrated place for herself in an industry tough to conquer for an outsider. This damsel has truly made it all the way despite all the distress; leaving the frat boys club of Bollywood and their dames twiddling their thumbs in abject contempt for her success," she added.
According to Tanushree, the high and mighty of the industry is hesitant to acknowledge that Kangana has made it big on her own. "Kangana, they don't support you because they are intimidated by your talent, they hate your guts and their brawny thick muscle brains can't seem to figure out for the love of sweet bejesus how on earth you made it this far without them!" she said.
"They think they are Gods and it's blasphemy to acknowledge that you shouldered a multimillion-dollar film on your own. With Manikarnika's success, you have hit them on their softest spot and it will take them some time to recover. They will come around eventually...they have to or else they run the risk of being irrelevant," Tanushree said, adding that she plans to watch Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi soon.

Also starring Bhumi Pednekar and a host of other talented actors, Sushant will soon dive headlong into the film’s promotions. But the actor’s fans have another reason to cheer. His film ‘Drive’ may also hit screens in the near future. The film, which is directed by Tarun Mansukhani, is a remake and stars Sushant and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead. It was supposed to release back in 2017 but producer Karan Joharwas unhappy with the film that was presented to him and wanted several portions to be re-shot with his inputs. After making the necessary changes, ‘Drive’ is all set to release in June this year. ‘Drive’ is reportedly the official remake of an English film of the same name starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. In a recent interview, Sushant said he was happy that the film would finally hit the big screen and that all actors hope that their film gets seen and appreciated by audiences. He added that each project provided something to learn and that while everyone worked hard on a film, one can never predict how an audience will react to it. The actor also said that he chooses not to see the monitor while shooting and only sees the final film when it gets released. He said that during promotions, he tells fans that if they enjoyed watching the trailer, they would enjoy the film as well. He added that as an actor, he had responsibility and wouldn’t let people down.

Ranveer Singh's heartfelt note for Deepika Padukone is filled with love

Image result for bollywood gossip breaking news

Deepika Padukone kick-started the new year by launching her website on January 5, which happens to be her birthday. Like a loving husband, Ranveer Singh, a while back, posted a love-filled letter for his wife.
He started off by stating that he has always faced difficulty in expressing his feelings for Deepika. 'Deepika is the most amazing person I've met in my life. And I'm not just saying this because she's my wife. I find it particularly challenging to articulate all my feelings about
her, and even though I find language to be a limiting means to express myself, I shall try," he wrote.
Speaking about the kind of dynamics the two lovebirds share, Ranveer wrote, 'I can safely say I'm the closest person to her in this world. I know her deeply as a person and I've collaborated closely with her as a professional.'
'Deepika nurtures a universe within herself: of love, compassion, kindness, intelligence, beauty, grace and empathy. These qualities make her a true and authentic artiste- she's one of the finest actors in the world,' he continued gushing about her wife.
Praising her for her inner strength, resilience, grit and an iron-will, Ranveer wrote, 'Her discipline and commitment are unparalleled. Her path-breaking achievements have changed the game time and again. A woman so righteous and full of virtue, that she commands respect.'
And if all this wasn't enough to win him the title of the husband of the year, pouring some more love in his letter Ranveer wrote, 'I sometimes stop and admire her, aware that she is a special soul, born for greatness. She's born to positively impact lives through the shining beacon of her virtuous being.'
He concluded the letter by calling himself the proudest husband in the world, 'She inspires me to be the best man I can possibly be. She makes my life worth living. She is true 'the light of my life," he wrote. Deepika and Ranveer tied the knot in two traditional, dreamy ceremonies in November last year, six years after their first film 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela.'
Ranveer Singh shared the note on Deepika's website which was launched on her 33rd birthday.

The Black Rose

Do you know who ‘Abdu'l-Baha was? He was a very important person. ‘Abdu'l-Baha was the Son of Bahaullah. He was always very kind and good to others. He was a perfect example of what a Baha'i should be. This is a true story about ‘Abdu'l-Baha.

A long time ago, long before you were born, ‘Abdu'l-Baha came to America. While He was on His trip to America, He spoke to many different people ... men and women and children.

He went to many cities - to churches and temples and parks and meetings and houses to tell people about the Baha'i Faith. He spoke to young people and old people and black people and white people and tall people and short people and rich people and poor people...

He told them all about Baha'u'llah.

Wherever 'Abdu'l-Baha went, many Baha'is went with Him. They were Baha'is of all kinds - Persians in Persian clothes, and Americans in American clothes, tall Baha'is and short Baha'is and rich Baha'is and poor Baha'is and old Baha'is and young Baha'is. And all colors - white and yellow and tan and brown and black.

Once, while 'Abdu'l-Baha was in New York, He went to a place where many poor people lived, to tell them about Baha'u'llah. This place was called the Bowery.
Many Baha'is went to the Bowery with 'Abdu'l-Baha. As they walked down the streets, some people stared at them because they were so different.

Soon some of the children started shouting and laughing. They thought that it was funny to see so many different kinds of people together. And, of course, they didn't know who 'Abdu'l-Baha was.

Mrs. Kinney was one of the Baha'is with 'Abdu'l-Baha. 'Abdu'l-Baha was staying at her house in New York. It made her sad to see the boys laughing and shouting at 'Abdu'l-Baha. So, she went over to speak to the children.

She told the boys who 'Abdu'l-Baha was. She said that He was a very Holy Man. He had spent many years in prison and had suffered very much, just because He told the Truth and loved all men. Now He was going to a meeting to tell poor people about Baha'u'llah.

The boys were sorry for what they had done. "Can't we go to the meeting, too?" they asked.

"No," Mrs. Kinney said that was impossible. But, since 'Abdu'l-Baha was staying at her house, they could come here on Sunday to meet Him. She gave the boys her address, but she didn't really think that they would come.

When Sunday came, the children arrived at Mrs. Kinney's house dressed up in their very best clothes. She was very surprised to see them. But, she was very happy that they had come to meet ‘Abdu'l-Baha.

History, Varieties and Meaning of Pink Rose

Pink roses are multipurpose flowers, perfect for an array of occasions.
They convey numerous emotions, including passion, thoughtfulness, and sentiment and are extremely contemporary in style, packing a colorful punch, with the ability to brighten up any room or event.
Whether you’re sending a bouquet of beautiful pink roses to a friend as a thank you, or are simply showing your affection and admiration for that special somebody, the pink rose is guaranteed to always express the right emotion.
And the best part? You don’t have to say a word.
With all of this in mind, it is little wonder pink roses are one of the most celebrated flowers on the planet, especially on Valentine’s Day!

The history of the pink rose

Pink Roses boast a long historical past. In fact, they’re one of the longest present-day roses known to man.
How do we know this? Because they have been depicted in many historical works of art varying in color from pale pink to the deepest shade of crimson.
Despite being a popular floral arrangement to gift to friends and family, there are a number of facts many are yet to learn about the rose species.
For example, every shade of pink has a different meaning, with the very first sighting of the pink rose originating from fossils dating back 40 million years! Additional historical evidence reveals that pink roses were grown some 5,000 years ago in China’s Imperial rose gardens and have persisted to play a part in history ever since.

The Little Pink Rose

Related image
Once there was a little pink Rosebud, and she lived down in a little dark house under the ground. One day she was sitting there, all by herself, and it was very still. Suddenly, she heard a little TAP, TAP, TAP, at the door.
“Who is that?” she said.
“It’s the Rain, and I want to come in;” said a soft, sad, little voice.
“No, you can’t come in,” the little Rosebud said.
By and by she heard another little TAP, TAP, TAP on the window pane.
The same soft little voice answered, “It’s the Rain, and I want to come in!”
“No, you can’t come in,” said the little Rosebud.
Then it was very still for a long time. At last, there came a little rustling, whispering sound, all around the window: RUSTLE, WHISPER, WHISPER.
“Who is there?” said the little Rosebud.
“It’s the Sunshine,” said a little, soft, cheery voice, “and I want to come in!”
“N—no,” said the little pink rose, “you can’t come in.” And she sat still again.
Pretty soon she heard the sweet little rustling noise at the key-hole.
“Who is there?” she said.
“It’s the Sunshine,” said the cheery little voice, “and I want to come in, I want to come in!”
“No, no,” said the little pink rose, “you cannot come in.”
By and by, as she sat so still, she heard TAP, TAP, TAP, and RUSTLE, WHISPER, RUSTLE, all up and down the window pane, and on the door, and at the key-hole.
“It’s the Rain and the Sun, the Rain and the Sun,” said two little voices, together, “and we want to come in! We want to come in! We want to come in!”
“Dear, dear!” said the little Rosebud, “if there are two of you, I suppose I shall have to let you in.”
So she opened the door a little wee crack, and in they came. And one took one of her little hands, and the other took her other little hand, and they ran, ran, ran with her, right up to the top of the ground. Then they said,—
So she poked her head through, and she was in the midst of a beautiful garden. It was springtime, and all the other flowers had their heads poked through, and she was the prettiest little pink rose in the whole garden!

The Origin of Gulab Jamun: A Story of History, Tradition & Oodles of Sweetness!

Festivals and celebrations without sweets? No can do! From the rasgulla and the modak to jalebi and gajar ka halwa, Indian desserts can make most of us go weak in the knees. However, if there is one desi delight I would pick over all others, it would definitely be the luscious gulab jamun.
Sinful, small fried rounds that smell of warm milk and caramelized sugar, gulab jamuns are ubiquitous in India — nearly every sweet store in the country serves some version of them. In fact, they have been served and savored so often that most of us have forgotten what it takes to make this sweet truly extraordinary.
The perfect gulab jamun calls for meticulously measured ingredients and a practiced technique. Made with chenna (or khoya) and kneaded with maida, balls of dough are fried till they turn that elusive rosy shade between gold and brown. After the heated oil works its magic, the crystallized sugar in the batter creates a slightly grainy crust while the Jamun's white heart remains silky smooth.
Infused with rose-scented (or cardamom-flavored) chashni, the ball yields to the slightest pressure, literally melting away as one bite into it. As such, the fluffy pillows of warm, syrup-laden dough are as deeply comforting as they are delicious — I could go on and on here.

Learn about desi gulab and the health benefits it has to offer

Indian rose
The Indian rose or desi gulab, as it is commonly known, is the poster girl for sweet-smelling natural products. It is about 2-3 inches wide, unlike the sturdier-looking English rose varieties, and has a delicate and sweet smell. "Desi Gulab is the original rose, which is why its beautiful aroma has a soothing effect on the body and the mind," says Gita Ramesh, Co-founder of the Kairali Ayurvedic Group, and author of The Ayurvedic Cookbook, Delhi.
Why is it popular? Used in making Ayurvedic medicines, cosmetics, potpourri, and desserts, the Indian rose is cool and mildly bitter-sweet. It has a good effect on your digestive system and is also diuretic in nature. "Rose tea, especially, heals stomach ailments and combats fatigue and lethargy," says Suja Mathai, a Bengaluru-based nutritionist. "Even chomping on a desi gulab (the organic variety) helps relieve stress. Washing your face with rose-seeped water calms tired skin," adds Ramesh.
Edible flower!Try this gulkand recipe by Ramesh: place fresh rose petals in a glass jar and layer with cane sugar; repeat the process until the jar is full. Close the jar and place it in the sun for 3-4 weeks; open every 2-3 days and stir.  When it has a semi-solid consistency, it is ready to eat. Add this tonic to milk and desserts.

The Proud Butterfly

Image result for story of flower and butterfly

Once, a beautiful, shiny and colorful butterfly was flitting from one flower to another. She saw a baby elephant coming down the path. She flew to him and sat on his ear. The elephant asked, "Who are you? Where are you going?"

The butterfly proudly replied, "I am the most beautiful of all the butterflies. You are ugly and fat. Your body is heavy while I am delicate and light. People are jealous of my colorful wings. I can fly anywhere with these wings."

The elephant calmly said, "I am glad to meet you."

The butterfly went on, "There is no comparison between us. You have four legs but I have six. You have a trunk and I have something like that too but I use it to suck nectar from the flowers. You cannot do that." Just then a strong wind blew and the butterfly could not keep her balance. She cried for help as she was flown away in the wind. But the elephant stood firmly on the ground and thought, "I can see how pride has a fall."

The Story of a Red Rose and a Cactus

Red Rose and a Cactus

One beautiful spring day a red rose blossomed in a forest. Many kinds of trees and plants grew there. As the rose looked around, a pine tree nearby said, “What a beautiful flower. I wish I was that lovely.” Another tree said, “Dear pine, do not be sad, we can not have everything.”
The rose turned its head and remarked, “It seems that I am the most beautiful plant in this forest.” A sunflower raised its yellow head and asked, “Why do you say that? In this forest, there are many beautiful plants. You are just one of them.” The red rose replied, “I see everyone looking at me and admiring me.” Then the rose looked at a cactus and said, “Look at that ugly plant full of thorns!” The pine tree said, “Red rose, what kind of talk is this? Who can say what beauty is? You have thorns too.”
The proud red rose looked angrily at the pine and said, “I thought you had good taste! You do not know what beauty is at all. You can not compare my thorns to that of the cactus.” “What a proud flower”, thought the trees.
The rose tried to move its roots away from the cactus, but it could not move. As the days passed, the red rose would look at the cactus and say insulting things, like This plant is useless? How sorry I am to be his neighbor.
Spring passed, and the weather became very warm. Life became difficult in the forest, as the plants and animals needed water and no rain fell. The red rose began to wilt. One day the rose saw sparrows stick their beaks into the cactus and then fly away, refreshed. This was puzzling, and the red rose asked the pine tree what the birds were doing. The pine tree explained that the birds got water from the cactus. “Does it not hurt when they make holes?” asked the rose.
“Yes, but the cactus does not like to see any birds suffer,” replied the pine.
The rose opened its eyes in wonder and said, “The cactus has water?”
“Yes, you can also drink from it. The sparrow can bring water to you if you ask the cactus for help.”
The red rose felt too ashamed of its past words and behavior to ask for water from the cactus, but then it finally did ask the cactus for help. The cactus kindly agreed and the birds filled their beaks with water and watered the rose’s roots. Thus the rose learned a lesson and never judged anyone by their appearance again.
