Fashion is about expressing your identity, showing someone who you are through your fashion choices and using your clothes to tell someone something about you. ... Part of choosing ethical fashion over other fashion brands adds another element to what fashion means to me and what I choose to express to other people
Looking for the most brazen talents in menswear? Fashion East’s got them. Since the menswear incubator launched in 2005, it has helped jump-start the careers of Jonathan Anderson, Craig Green, Martine Rose, Grace Wales Bonner, and Charles Jeffrey—and if you need more proof of its success, take this: Kim Jones, now one of menswear’s most influential designers—he’s currently artistic director at Dior Men—was a part of the first-ever Fashion East menswear showcase.
For its upcoming installment in January 2019, founder Lulu Kennedy is continuing to pluck talents from all corners of the world. Stefan Cooke, who graduated from Central Saint Martins’s MA course in 2017, will return to the showcase for the third and final time. Over his first two seasons with Fashion East, Cooke has refined his innovative pattern-cutting and subversive aesthetic and picked up stockists like Dover Street Market and MatchesFashion.com.
New additions include Motorola, a British-Nigerian label designed by fellow CSM grad Mowalola Ogunlesi, and Robyn Lynch, an Irish designer who received her menswear MA from the University of Westminster and has held roles at Phoebe English and Cottweiler. The former is a psychedelic trip that plumbs the depths of what it means to be an African male, the latter an exploration of Irish heritage and craft.
