The disappearance of Khashoggi, an adviser to former Saudi intelligence head Prince Turki al-Faisal, has sparked global concern, particularly after sources in Turkey said that authorities believed that he was killed inside the Consulate.
Fearing retribution for his criticism of Saudi policy in the Yemen war and its crackdown on dissents, Khashoggi left Saudi Arabia last year. Saudi officials have said that he left shortly afterward but his fiancé, who was waiting outside, said he never appeared.
