Lewis Hamilton clarifies India 'poor place' comments

(CNN)Lewis Hamilton has clarified his comments on Indian poverty after some of his social media followers were "upset."
In an interview with the BBC, the five-time world champion said he felt "conflicted" attending the Indian Grand Prix, which ran on the Formula One calendar from 2011 to 2013.
"I've been to India before to a race which was strange because India was such a poor place yet we had this massive, beautiful Grand Prix track made in the middle of nowhere," he said.

Global warming increasing death, disease risk: Study

Climate change is putting an increasing proportion of the global population at risk of heat-related death and diseases, and causing significant loss of work hours in vulnerable areas like India, sub-Saharan Africa, and South America, according to a study published in The Lancet journal. The rising vulnerability to the heat-related risks of climate change is mirrored by increased exposure to higher temperatures.
Despite a mean global temperature increase of 0.3 degrees Celsius between 1986 and 2017, the average temperature increase people were exposed to was more than double this (0.8 degrees Celsius).  With the pace of climate change outweighing the urgency of the response, the report provides cause for concern. However, researchers also note promising trends in key areas for health, including the phase-out of coal, the deployment of healthier, cleaner modes of transport, and health system adaptation.

Got menopause? Healthy lifestyle now is crucial for heart health

A healthy lifestyle during the transition to menopause may offset the acceleration of atherosclerosis, the slow narrowing of the arteries that increases with age, according to new research in the Journal of the American Heart Association, the Open Access Journal of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
Women participating in the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN), ages 42-52 at enrollment, were evaluated using a 10-year "Healthy Lifestyle Score," developed for this study. Each woman had annual medical exams and completed questionnaires about their physical activity, eating habits and tobacco use. In addition, participants had at least one coronary artery ultrasound, which is a non-invasive test that provides images of the inside of an artery leading to the heart.

Despite common obesity gene variants obese children lose weight after lifestyle changes

Children who are genetically predisposed to overweight, due to common gene variants, can still lose weight by changing their diet and exercise habits. Around 750 children and adolescents with overweight or obesity undergoing lifestyle intervention participated in the study conducted by researchers from the University of Copenhagen and Holbæk Hospital.
Overweight and obesity constitute an increasing global problem that may lead to serious sequelae such as heart attacks, diabetes and cancer. In 2016, 124 million children and adolescents worldwide suffered from obesity. Now researchers from the University of Copenhagen and the Children's Obesity Clinic, the Department of Paediatrics at Holbæk Hospital have examined how genetics affect children and young people's ability to lose excess weight.

    Combating climate change with lifestyle

The Climate Emergency Plan calls for a total transformation of the consumption-oriented way of life that has evolved around an economic system involving production for profit on the one hand and escalating demand for both essential items and luxuries on the other. Can humankind do it?
The Club of Rome’s Climate Emergency Plan unveiled on November 24, 2018, comes in the wake of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on Climate Change of 1.5°C, released on October 7, 2018. It provides yet another reminder that humankind stands on the threshold of disaster. Authored by Sandrine Dixson-Decleve, Ian Dunlop and Anders Wijkman with support from Martin Hedberg and Till Kellerhoff, it gives an idea of the immediacy of the threat when it states with reference to climate change, “Until recently, it was seen as a future threat. Today, it is a reality affecting the lives of millions. In the 21st Century, more than any other issue, it will dictate the long-term prosperity and security of nations, and of the planet.”
The devastating consequences of climate change are well-known and include flooding of coastal areas, destruction of coral reefs, extinction and/or migration of marine species, drastically fluctuating weather patterns, floods, droughts, migration and/or extinction of birds and animals to escape climate conditions rendered inhospitable and drastic changes in agriculture as cropping patterns change in keeping with changing climate conditions.
